Strategy games you can actually play in ten-minute bursts
The old knock against mobile strategy was that real strategy needs long, uninterrupted sessions. That's less true than it used to be. A good turn-based structure lets you dip in, make a couple of meaningful decisions, and step away.
Iron Meridian is my current example. One turn is enough to feel like you've moved the needle — repositioning an army, settling a new tile, signing a shaky truce — and the game holds the state perfectly until you return.
The trick, as a player, is to stop treating these games as marathons. Play them like a chess match by correspondence. A few moves on the bus, a few more at lunch, and over a day you've waged a whole campaign.
It changes how the genre feels. Strategy becomes a background thread in your day instead of an evening commitment, and honestly that suits adult life a lot better.
